The Brandywine Battlefield Historic Site brings to life the largest engagement of the Revolutionary War, fought on September 11, 1777, between the Continental Army led by General George Washington and the British forces headed by General William Howe.
The park has a Visitor Center with a museum and a gift shop. On the grounds of the park are both Washington's headquarters and Lafayette's quarters. Bring a picnic and enjoy the grounds as you talk about one chapter in the book we call America.
This website features a specially created sequence of Driving Tours which trace the troop movements while allowing visitors to enjoy the rich diversity of offerings in the Brandywine region.
The purpose of this Internet site is to acquaint you with the history of this battle and the offerings of the Park in hopes that you may some day come to visit in person. Washington, Lafayette, Howe, and scores of others, reveal an important story. To understand who we are as an American people, you must know where we came from; you must have some insight into the military, political and social struggles we faced and the choices that were made. Seeing a historic shrine in person, or even in cyberspace, makes your appreciation of our history more meaningful.
